Deer Park Sisterhood

The Deer Park Sisterhood meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:00, typically at the church.  The group welcomes all women who wish to join in Christian fellowship and participate in charitable projects benefiting our local community.  Membership or attendance at Deer Park UMC is not required!  For information or questions ask any Sisterhood member or contact the church office at 410.848.2313.

LAST MEETING:  Christian Farmer’s Bracelets, Thursday August 3rd @7PM.  DPUMC Conference Room

Last month we gathered to make bracelets for the Christian Farmers Outreach.  The bracelets are simple leather bands with just 5 beads, and tied off at the ends.  The Christian Farmers Outreach uses the bracelets to help spread the word of Christ around the world.  The beads each have a significant meaning:

Gold — Represents Heaven  Somewhere we all want to go.  “ …and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.” Rev 21:18b

Dark — Represents Sin  Our Problem — All Are Sinners
“ For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”  Romans 3:23
“ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”
 Romans 6:23

Red — Blood of Christ  God’s Remedy for Sin
“ But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8
This is what Jesus did for us. He loved us so much that He went to the cross on our behalf that we can have eternal forgiveness for our sin and be saved.

White — All May be Saved Now  Our Response to what Jesus did for us  on the cross.
“ For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
“ But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the Sons of God.”  John 1:12a

Green — Represents Growth  The Lord wants us to experience His peace and joy. He has a special purpose for us all.

“ But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ”  II Peter 3:18

We’ll be making handmade favors for the residents of a nursing home and assisted living facility!  This annual activity is a favorite for the Sisterhood and those who are on the receiving end.  It’s a blessing to provide a small bit of joy to those who need it most!

  • The Sisterhood hosted the Annual Church Picnic with the UM Women’s group in August.
  • The 3rd Annual Sisterhood Crop & Crafting fundraising event is Saturday, November 4th.  It promises to be our best yet!

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, oh Lord, my Strength, and my Redeemer.  Amen.”
